Banteay Meanchey has five special economic zones that created job opportunities for more than 20,000 people and help boost the province’s economy.
H.E. Mr. Oum Reatrey, Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province, told reporters of the National Radio of Cambodia that under the wise leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, Cambodia has developed in all sectors, especially Banteay Meanchey province, has received continuous development in terms of infrastructure, agriculture and agro-industry, which encouraged people to return to work from abroad.
He added that Banteay Meanchey now has five special economic zones and an industrial park that produces jewellery, textiles and agricultural by-products, employing more than 20,000 workers.
“We have not yet considered the handicraft production base of more than 1,000 small handicrafts, we have all the infrastructure, from the national road from the district to the commune, from the commune to the village, and the national road.”
Mr. Oum Reatrey also stated that through these industries, Banteay Meanchey province has been transformed from a remote and uninhabited area into a bustling area full of infrastructure development, especially Poipet, and all the people are employed, have a decent and civilized income.
He added that most companies investing in the special economic zone in Banteay Meanchey are foreign companies, such as Thai, Japanese and Chinese companies. AKP
